  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 squirts of green gel food coloring
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp fine salt (for frosting)
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream, room temperature
  • Electric Green Gel Food Coloring
  • Black Gel Food Coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, beat unsalted butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by buttermilk, oil, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for about 28 minutes. Cool before frosting.
