  • 1 pound fresh crab meat (Dungeness or blue crabs)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 loaf French baguette, sliced into ½-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional: ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. If using fresh crabs, steam them for about 10 minutes until they turn bright red. Once cooled, extract the crab meat.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 1-2 minutes).
  4. In a large bowl, combine crab meat, garlic butter, lemon juice, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper.
  5. Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush with olive oil on both sides. Toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Top each toasted slice with the crab mixture. If desired, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Garnish with paprika before serving.
