  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Juice of half a lemon (about 1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine apples, apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Cook over medium-low heat uncovered for about 1 hour until apples are soft.
  2. Use a hand blender to puree the mixture until smooth. Alternatively, transfer to a regular blender in batches.
  3. Return the pureed mixture to the pot and cook uncovered for another hour, stirring occasionally until thickened and deep brown.
  4. Stir in lemon juice and transfer warm apple butter into jars for storage.
