  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ cup barbecue sauce (for topping)
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until combined. Press into the prepared dish.
  3. Spread barbecue sauce on top and bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, whisk in flour for 1 minute, then gradually add milk until thickened. Stir in cheese until melted.
  6. Fold cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce and pour over the meatloaf layer.
  7. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
